CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are investigating a violent fight that occurred at West Charlotte High School.
CMS said that there was a video circulating online showing alleged fights that happened at the high school Friday.
Officials said that “every student deserves to feel safe and be safe at school. Safety of our students and staff are our top priority.”
The message below was sent to West Charlotte High School families at 5 p.m. Friday, October 31:
"West Charlotte Families, this is Principal Cook. I am reaching out to inform you of a fight that took place on our bus lot during dismissal today, a video of which you may have seen circulating on social media. We understand this footage may be disturbing. We have contacted the families of all students involved.
School leadership is aware and this incident is being investigated by both Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and CMPD. We will provide updates as we are able.
Every student deserves to feel and be safe at school. The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and continued support of West Charlotte High School."
CMS and CMPD say this is an active and ongoing investigation.
Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will be holding a press conference at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, regarding the investigation.
