Vice President JD Vance may have been the guest of honor at a Turning Point USA event this week, but it was his brief on-stage moment with Erika Kirk that stole the spotlight.
Kirk, 36, who recently took over as CEO of Turning Point USA following the assassination of her husband, political organizer Charlie Kirk, opened the Wednesday, October 29, event at the University of Mississippi with an emotional speech.

“When our team asked my dear friend, Vice President JD Vance, to speak today, I really prayed on it,” she told the crowd. “But I could just hear Charlie in my heart … ‘Go reclaim that territory, babe. Go. The battle's already won. God's love conquers.’ ”
After her remarks, Kirk introduced Vance, 41, and the two shared an embrace that immediately set social media buzzing. The vice president was seen his arms wrapped around her waist as she cupped the back of his head with her fingers in his hair, sending the internet into debate mode over whether the hug was simply heartfelt or something else entirely.
Clips of the moment, tagged “Erika Kirk JD Vance,” quickly spread across X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, with users replaying video.
One person on YouTube wrote, “If I'm hugging a friend I don't hold his head like I'm pulling him in for a kiss…”
Kirk had told the audience moments earlier, “No one will ever replace my husband, but I do see some similarities of my husband in Vice President JD Vance.”

The comment only fueled speculation once the clip began circulating online.
“Usha must be so comforted knowing that no one could ever replace Charlie,” another person snarked.
Parade reached out to Kirk for comment but did not receive an immediate response.
Vance’s wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, was also present at the event. Later in the evening, he addressed a separate question about their inter-faith marriage and noted that he converted to Catholicism while she was raised Hindu.
