“As you can tell, we’ve had some injuries over the last few weeks. Our injury report last week was pretty healthy and then this week, same thing. We’ve got guys dinged up and in and out, so we have an opportunity, and he was available. He’s a good football player. There are a number of us that have been with him in the past, and so it’s a good fit.

“We’ll lock him in in one spot and have him learn the defense. Obviously, he’s been with DA so he should have some familiarity. But he’s also bounced around to a few different other systems over the last few years, and so we’ll see how quickly it comes back to him and whether he’ll be ready to go this week or not.”

While the first-year Bears head coach was measured with his answer about Chauncey Gardner-Johnson’s availability this week, the newest member of Chicago’s defense was pretty straight-forward with it:

Bears Defensive Coordiantor Dennis Allen’s unit will have a lot on their plate on game day. Regardless if Bengals quarterback Joe Flacco plays or not, Chicago’s secondary — which now includes Gardner-Johnson — will be tasked with slowing down Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Bears fans entered this year thinking about the Ben Johnson hire as one aimed at getting the most out of quarterback Caleb Williams.
