Dancing With the Stars pro Val Chmerkovskiy is speaking out after his brother, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and sister-in-law Peta Murgatroyd made waves with their comments about newcomer Jan Ravnik.
Following Monday night’s Halloween episode, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck and her first-time pro partner were eliminated from the competition. Affleck told Parade she was "so excited to get back home" and spend time with her kids.
Affleck also plans to "soak in postpartum" now that her timecompeting is over. "This journey was really hard on me physically, mentally, emotionally, and I'm ready to give all my energy now to my kids," she told us.
Ahead of spooky-themed episode, Murgatroyd and her husband stirred controversy on The Penthouse With Peta, criticizing Ravnik’s ballroom background — or lack thereof. "Jen has a major disadvantage," Murgatroyd, 39, said of the pairing. "Hiring a non-ballroom dancer to teach a celebrity ballroom dance is outrageous."
Her husband, 45, didn’t hold back either. "Jan has absolutely no business being a pro," he said. "There’s zero foundation, technique, [or] understanding of the partnership."
After last night's elimination, Access Hollywood asked Chmerkovskiy about his brother's remarks. While he made it clear he didn’t share his brother’s opinion, he stood by him personally.
"I absolutely love my brother," he said (via Reddit). "I always got his back. You don’t gotta like what he said, I don’t gotta agree with what he said. But I’m always going to stand up for him. Do I disagree with it? Yeah, completely."
Chmerkovskiy called the comments "hurtful" for a current pro to hear midseason, noting that he and Ravnik had spoken privately after the episode. "I still share space with Jan," Val concluded. "I think he did an amazing job — especially for his first time out."
