Blackhawks 7, Senators 3 — Three Stars, Key Takeaways

The message from head coach Jeff Blashill to his players after the Blackhawks lost to the Kings on Sunday evening was pretty simple. When you get a team in the second half of a back-to-back, don’t take your foot off the gas. And take advantage of your opportunities.

Against the Kings, the Blackhawks dominated the first period but skated away with only one goal. Tonight, the Blackhawks put three goals on the board before the opening 20 minutes came to a close. And, when that horn sounded, the fans at the United Center gave the players a well-deserved ovation.

The Blackhawks took a 4-0 lead with one of the easiest goals you’ll ever see… and then the wheels came off completely. Jake Sanderson scored at 4:58, Michael Amadio scored at 7:09 and, when Tim Stützle scored at 8:31 the previously exuberant crowd at the United Center was now quiet and nervous — and the four-goal lead was down to only one. The lead stayed one into the second intermission.

Thankfully, Connor Bedard checked something off the “haven’t done that yet” list and his third goal padded the lead. A Bedard rebound then found Ryan Donato for goal No. 6 for the Hawks on the night and there was some breathing room again. The cheap shots weren’t done, and the Blackhawks weren’t done scoring. But the Hawks were able to finish the job this time.

    Star 1: Connor Bedard

Bedard absolutely ripped his power play goal in the first period (that’s in the key takeaways) for his fourth goal of the season. His second goal of the night was also a well placed shot. But… look. I’m not saying the Senators are trying to get someone fired but the effort on this coast-to-coast free skate from Bedard leaves a lot to be desired in Ottawa. Bedard’s second goal of the night was the 50th of his NHL career. His 51st career goal completed the first hat trick of his NHL career!

    Star 2: Louis Crevier

Coming into tonight’s game, Crevier had nine points in 64 career regular-season games. He had two points 12:06 into the first period tonight! During the second period, Crevier went down after taking a shot to the knee that kept him from putting weight on his leg. He was able to get to the bench and went straight to the room. Thankfully, he was able to return to the game.

    Star 3: Colton Dach

You know how there have been lots of complaints about “if only Dach could finish one of those juicy rebounds?” early in the season? Yeah, he got one tonight in the first period and put it home. Dach was a physical player in the first period as well. He was only credited with one hit, but he threw his body around pretty well a few times.

    Key Takeaways

Ryan Donato had a very physical game. He had three big hits in the second period. His goal in the third period really allowed fans to exhale a little.

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 29, 2025 The move of André Burakovsky onto the top power play unit paid immediate dividends. He had the pretty setup to Bedard near the end of the first period. Burakovsky also had the second assist on Donato’s goal in the third.

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 29, 2025 How about an empty net, short-handed goal from Frank Nazar — with 7:16 left in regulation. Nazar had an assist on Bedard’s power play goal in the first period as well.

    — BHF (@BlackhawksFocus) October 29, 2025 The Blackhawks had a 25-11 Corsi For advantage at 5-on-5 after 20 minutes. And they won 10 of 18 faceoffs in the first period (56 percent). Nazar won 4 of 8 and Jason Dickinson won 3 of 6 to lead the way at the dot. Why was the second period a disaster? The Senators had a 19-9 Corsi For advantage at 5-on-5 in the second period. And Ottawa won 15 of 18 faceoffs in the middle stanza. The third period in this game was the opposite of the game against the Kings. The Senators tried to get physical, the Blackhawks pushed back. And the Blackhawks scored when they had good looks at the net — which is the most important part. It’s good they finished this one. Artyom Levshunov picked up an assist on Bedard’s second goal of the night, which is a nice present for his 20th birthday (which is Oct. 28). The Blackhawks challenged Ottawa’s third goal. It appeared to be offside, but the league decided it wasn’t. Here’s their explanation for those who want that.

    — NHL Public Relations (@NHLPR) October 29, 2025 With the second assist on Dach’s goal in the first period, Nick Foligno recorded the 600th points of his NHL career.
