This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Desirée Davis-Omburo.
Davis-Omburo has taught choral music and piano at East Chapel Hill High School for the last three decades and she’s heading into retirement after this year. She’s also taught at Phillips Middle School and is the longtime music director at her church. She’s very encouraging with all of her students and allows them all to be seen. Not only has Davis-Omburo given her students the confidence to perform here in Chapel Hill, she’s also taken them to compete and win in competitions across the country and perform in famous venues like Carnegie Hall.
Davis-Omburo may be retiring, but her legacy will live on as parents and students are working to raise money for an endowed scholarship in her name. The scholarship will give $1,000 to a graduating Chapel Hill-Carrboro senior with plans to pursue a career in music.
