The former Mumbai batter, Prithvi Shaw, has opened up his account for his new side, Maharashtra, in some style, as he scored his first hundred in the Ranji Trophy since February 2024 in just the second game of the season for the new team.
Prithvi Shaw's career had taken a massive blow after the batter was dropped from Mumbai's domestic squad for the Ranji Trophy last season, citing his lack of fitness as well as discipline within the team. Shaw was, anyway, out of touch for a long time and failed to score runs for the team.
His last outing for Mumbai was back during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final in December 2024. He made his Ranji Trophy debut back in 2016 as a young 17-year-old cricketer and has amassed 4500 First-class runs for Mumbai.
The opening batter, Prithvi Shaw, dictated his innings against Chandigarh as he scored his maiden hundred for Maharashtra in the second round match against Chandigarh on Monday. This hundred came during Maharashtra's second innings against Chandigarh on Day 3.

Shaw was dismissed for 8 runs off 9 balls in the first innings, but had kicked off his campaign for the new side with a dominant 75 against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy opener. His hundred came off just 72 balls, a blistering knock that showed Shaw unleashing his aggressive technique, for which he gained fame initially.
This marked his 14th First-Class hundred and the first since February 2024. Shaw continued the onslaught as he crossed the 150-run mark in no time with a strike rate of nearly 145. At the time of writing, the updated score of Prithvi Shaw was 180 runs off just 126 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad looks in terrific touch for Maharashtra
Former Maharashtra skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has also been batting diligently in the Ranji Trophy this time around. He started off the campaign with two half-centuries against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy opener.
Gaikwad missed out on a hundred in the first game, having made a good-looking 91 in the first innings and backed it with another 55* in the second. This time around, against Chandigarh, he has managed to score a stupendous century.
Gaikwad top-scored with 116 in their first innings and came in to bat in the second innings alongside Prithvi Shaw after Siddesh Veer's wicket fell just at the stroke of Lunch.
