“Today, we mourn the heartbreaking loss of one of the greatest to ever wear the green and white—Nick Mangold. Nick was more than a legendary center. Johnson continued by sharing his condolences for Mangold’s wife Jenny, their four children Matthew,Eloise,Thomas, and Charlotte, as well as Mangold’s extended family, friends, and fans who loved him.
“RIP to one of the greatest centers of all time,” wrote gaming app FanDuel.
A Jets fan added, “Helluva player.”
“Nick, you are one of my childhood idols and my favorite Jets player of all time. I can’t believe this is real. I hope you know how much Jets Nation loves you,” wrote another emotional fan.

In early October, the 41-year-old former NFL star shared a social media post addressing his Jets and Buckeyes communities, revealing that his 2006 diagnosis was caused by a genetic defect, and that he was undergoing dialysis while awaiting a kidney transplant.
“I always knew this day would come,” he wrote, “but I thought I would have more time.”
Mangold then asked fans with his shared type O blood type to consider donating a kidney. Fans quickly offered help and signed up to determine if they might be a match for the struggling former Jets star.
