The Bears head to Baltimore this weekend riding a four-game winning streak and feeling, for the first time in a long time, like a team beginning to understand itself. But if Chicago wants to stretch that run to five straight, it’ll need to earn it against a Ravens team that’s healthier than it has been in weeks — and still carries enough defensive muscle and playoff DNA to turn Sunday into a measuring-stick game.

All eyes will naturally shift to Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, whose status has dominated headlines throughout the week. Jackson practiced for a third straight day. He has been limited for most of the week, but istrending toward being available for Sunday’s game — and the Bears are preparing as if the former MVP will be the one under center. Whether Baltimore rolls out a slightly hobbled Lamar or pivots again to a backup (more than likely, it would be Tyler Huntley) changes the degree of difficulty, but not the mindset. As Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson put it, Chicago is preparing for the full Baltimore experience.

Of course, one Ravens defender doesn’t need any introduction in Chicago: Roquan Smith. The former Bears All-Pro will get another shot at his old team, this time with a defense that still plays with his signature edge but now wears purple and black. Smith, offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, and fullback Patrick Ricard are all expected to play, meaning the Ravens should look far closer to their true form than the injury-patched version seen earlier this season. For a Bears team still seeking a complete performance, that’s a significant subplot.

This brings us to Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. Last week’s win against New Orleans pushed the Bears to 4-2, but Williams knows he left too many throws on the field. His completion percentage has dipped in recent weeks, and Sunday offers a chance to course-correct — not with hero-ball, but with rhythm, decision-making, and taking the layups Baltimore’s pressure packages will inevitably leave behind. A bounce-back game from the rookie would go a long way in proving Chicago can win because of its quarterback, not just around him.

Bears Coach Ben Johnson would love nothing more than for both phases of the offense to finally click on the same Sunday. The Bears have run the ball well in stretches, and they’ve taken shots when needed, but the balance has rarely aligned across four quarters.

There’s no hiding behind the standings this week. Ravens-Bears isn’t just another game — it’s a legitimacy test. For Chicago, a fifth straight win, in a hostile environment on the road, against a perennial contender, would signal something bigger than momentum. It would feel like arrival.

    Three Bears

Every week, our Chicago Bears writers will give you their Bears player to watch in the matchup ahead. Three Bears is a staple of these previews, and with Bears coverage expanding this season, I thought it would be cool to involve all of the Bears thinkers in the exercise.

Patrick Flowers: Caleb Williams — While I’m not interested in making Caleb Williams’ down performance last week against the Saints anything more than it was, the second-year quarterback admitted it wasn’t good enough for the team, and I fully expect him to come out this week in Baltimore looking for redemption. If Williams can thrive, and the running game can have continued success, we could see that beautiful combination Ben Johnon referred to earlier this week.

Luis Medina: Colston Loveland — I expected Tyler Warren to put up solid numbers for the Colts because he figured to be a primary option in an Indianapolis offense that doesn’t have a ton of playmakers in the passing game. However, seeing Oronde Gadsen II, a fifth-round pick from the 2025 NFL Draft, have back-to-back breakout weeks for the Los Angeles Chargers has me pining for Chicago’s rookie tight end have one of his own. The Ravens have allowed six different tight ends to post games with 4+ catches and 40+ receiving yards. Why can’t Colston Loveland be next?

Matt Rooney: Caleb Williams — He feels like an obvious choice this week. Was he terrible against New Orleans? No. But he wasn’t necessarily good, either. Caleb has done a nice job of bouncing back with strong performances after a meh game. I don’t care what Baltimore’s record is, that’s still a very talented football team that plays in a hostile home environment. This is a great chance for the Bears quarterback to make a statement and win a game no one thought they would when the season kicked off.
