Two Starters Added to Thursday’s Bears Injury Report

The second Chicago Bears injury report ahead of the team’s Week 8 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens is out. Unfortunately, it includes some new names of players whose status we need to keep tabs on ahead of Sunday’s showdown.

One day after four starters missed practice, two more starters were limited in their participation on Thursday’s Bears injury report. Here it is in its entirety:

    PLAYERS WHO DID NOT PRACTICE

Running back Roschon Johnson (back), offensive lineman Braxton Jones (knee), tight end Cole Kmet (back), cornerback Tyrique Stevenson (shoulder), left guard Joe Thuney (rest)

Left guard Joe Thuney received a veteran’s rest day on Thursday. His appearance on the injury report does not concern me. HOWEVER, seeing cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and tight end Cole Kmet have back-to-back DNPs next to their respective names on the Bears injury report is unsettling. And I could say the same about Braxton Jones, who went from limited because of a knee injury to not practicing at all.

For what it’s worth, the Bears have able-bodied players who can fill in for Kmet and Jones. We could get some more Colston Loveland action on Sunday if Kmet can’t give it a go. And even if Chicago doesn’t have Jones, I see it as an opportunity for rookie Ozzy Trapilo to cement his status as the team’s top swing tackle option. And yet, I know I can’t say the same about Tyrique Stevenson’s situation because an already banged-up Chicago secondary can’t afford to have another cornerback on the Bears injury report.

PLAYERS WHO WERE LIMITED ON THE BEARS INJURY REPORT

Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds (ankle), cornerback Kyler Gordon (groin/calf), wide receiver DJ Moore (hip), running back D’Andre Swift (groin)

I hate seeing Kyler Gordon and Tremaine Edmunds added to the injury report. Those two players are coming off great showings against the New Orleans Saints. That Gordon is on the injury report again after dealing with a hamstring issue that caused him to miss multiple games earlier in the season makes me feel uneasy. The Bears simply cannot afford to have any more injuries in the secondary. Hopefully, Friday’s Bears injury report provides some better news regarding those two players.

The good news from this portion of the Bears injury report is that wideout DJ Moore and running back D’Andre Swift were upgraded. Going from not practicing at all on Wednesday to doing so in a limited capacity on Thursday suggest things are heading in the right direction.

PLAYERS WHO WERE FULL PARTICIPANTS ON THURSDAY

Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett (knee), kicker Cairo Santos (right thigh), cornerback Nahshon Wright (hip), linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (knee), defensive end Austin Booker (knee)

Finally, Grady Jarrett gets a “FULL” designation next to his name on the Bears injury report. We discussed why Jarrett missed Chicago’s Week 7 win against New Orleans earlier in the week. Perhaps his return to the lineup could provide a boost to the Bears in the tenches. Also receiving upgrades on the injury report are kicker Cairo Santos and cornerback Nahshon Wright. The Bears might have a tough decision to make in the kicking game in the coming weeks. All eyes will be on Cairo on Sunday if he gets the call to kick again.

We’ll have more from the Bears injury report tomorrow. Until then, I’ll be hoping for th ebest.
