Claudia Winkleman has shocked fans after announcing that both she and Tess Daly are to leave Strictly Come Dancing after the latest series ends.
“We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream,” the pair said in a video statement posted on Daly’s Instagram feed.
“We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.”
They said: “We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show. They’re the most brilliant team and we’ll miss them every day.
“We will cry when we say the last ‘keep dancing’ but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza.”
Daly has presented Strictly since the first series 21 years ago. Winkleman joined in 2014 having presented sister show It Takes Two.
However the show has been marred by a number of scandals in recent years, including bullying allegations.
Winkleman will be one of the most in-demand figures in broadcasting after leaving Strictly. She also presents The Traitors and its current hit celebrity spin-off and fronts Channel 4’s The Piano.
Favourites to take over the Strictly role include Holly Willoughby and Cat Deeley. Rylan Clark is also liked by BBC entertainment producers whilst Alison Hammond could be in the mix.
