A beloved alum of the hit—and controversial—Lifetime reality series Dance Moms is opening up about an unexpected new health diagnosis she received well into her 40s—something that she says "changed [her] life."
In a new selfie-style video uploaded to TikTok, Christi Lukasiak revealed her recent revelation as she sat outside in the sunshine in front of a grassy knoll, letting her tears flow as she recounted the events leading up to the news.
“So a few months ago, I got a diagnosis that totally changed my life," she shared. "Like, flipped my world upside down.” Her voice already sounded watery as she went on to explain that it wasn't something she originally planned to share. "I decided that I think it’s really important that I talk about it. If it helps even one person, it might be worth me being vulnerable."
Lukasiak then went on to discuss her experience with therapy, which she's been in her "entire adult life."
"I’ve been diagnosed with a multitude of things," she revealed, such as depression, anxiety, and even borderline personality disorder—something she'd heard a lot about and thought she could "fit [herself] into a box"—even though it "wasn’t quite right." Still, she "knew that something was ‘off,’" even if she didn't know how to explain it.
But recently, while speaking with her therapist, he asked her, “Has anybody ever talked to you about ADHD?”
It was a surprising suggestion for the former dance mom, who said she was“a really good student”—a common misconception about the disorder, particularly for women. The professional sent her off with some informational pamphlets, which she said made it “like a light went off,” and ultimately, at 48 years old, she was diagnosed with ADHD, opening up a new world of treatment and support.
As things first started to come together, she came to a peaceful park—the same one she filmed her announcement in—where she “cried [her] eyes out, because for the first time, [her] brain was quiet.”

She sounded even more choked up as she directly addressed anyone else struggling to figure out what's going on, telling them, "...if you’ve ever felt different, or weird, or alone, don’t let anybody else tell you what is wrong with you. Keep looking, keep pushing. You know yourself better than anyone and you are not alone."
"I’m sending you all the biggest hug and kiss," she concluded. "I’m not crying because I’m sad, I’m crying because I feel relief. "
Many Fans Could Sympathize With Her Struggles
Followers who have dealt with similar struggles were quick to swarm Lukasiak's comments with love, with one writing, "We’re all here for you Christi, you’re never alone??❤️?."

Lukasiak's bestie Kelly Hylandfought breast cancer last year, and underwent a cardiac procedure over the summer to fix a leak in one of the valves of her heart. Thankfully the two, who host a podcast together, both seem to be doing well.
