It’s the time of year when I spend a lot of time thinking about how I need more blankets and pillows around the house because comfort and warmth take precedence when the temps dip.
Before we dive into some Bears stuff, this feels like a good spot to point out that basketball season is here. The Bulls are back. And while the franchise seems like it is in a perpetual rut, BN’s coverage is still superb. So be sure to check out our friends at BN Bulls here, as well as on Facebook, Twitter/X, and BlueSky. I had dinner with a friend (Middlebrow’s Tavern Tuesday is a uniquely Chicago thing) and I saw this tweet before I put my phone away to stuff my face with pizza…I’m told Maxx Crosby is available.I’m also told “start stacking 1s”.

— Around The NFL (@AroundTheNFL) October 22, 2025 The NFL Trade Deadline is in 13 days. I fully expect rumors to pick up between now and then, so this is a good time to keep your head on a swivel. It is a real shame that Maxx Crosby isn’t being made available because he would have made a great addition to this Chicago Bears defense. Well, this is a worthwhile update for those of you who are looking forward to Black Friday Football:The NFL announced this year’s Black Friday game between the #Bears and #Eagles will now be available globally in over 240 countries and territories on Prime video with no subscription or Prime membership required. — Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge) October 22, 2025 Weekly awards come out later today. I wonder if Tremaine Edmunds did enough to merit consideration for the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week award. The linebacker collected 6 solo tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle-for-loss, 1 quarterback hit, and 1 pass defended in the team’s Week 7 win against the New Orleans Saints. Edmunds is in the midst of a bounce-back year has been playing his best ball under Bears Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen. I haven’t seen Edmunds this active since he was a member of the Buffalo Bills. Can we see more of this type of play from Edmunds against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8? SMALL SAMPLE ALERT! This is Tremaine Edmunds’ 17-game pace based on his first six games of the 2025 NFL season: 173 total tackles (85 solo), 6 tackles-for-loss, 2 quarterback hits, 9 interceptions. If Edmunds can be an impact player at the second level, this Bears defense could be better than we expected it would be at the start of the year. I love pleasant surprises. Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Images The first Bears injury report of the week will drop later today, which means we will have updates regarding cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and tight end Cole Kmet. Both players left the Week 7 win versus the Saints with injuries after being initially listed as doubtful to return. Stevenson went out with a shoulder injury, while Kmet was dealing with a back issue. Earlier in the week, Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson told reporters he felt the injuries were more of a “day-to-day” thing than a “week-to-week” issue. We’ll see what the injury report says about that when it coems out this afternoon. If Cole Kmet can’t go (or be a full-go), at least the Bears have Colston Loveland to eat up some snaps. Maybe the Bears should increase his snap share anyway. I like how the offensive coaching staff is throwing a lot at quarterback Caleb Williams, so I’d like to see the same happen with Loveland. No matter how things go with Kmet, it will be worth keeping an eye on Loveland’s snap count moving forward. — Brian Baldinger (@BaldyNFL) October 21, 2025 Even as he plays in his age-32 season, Bears safety Kevin Byard continues to play at a high level. There were some doubts about bringing Byard in as a free agent in 2024, but the veteran safety’s play has silenced critics and doubters. Heck, I think he is a sneaky extension candidate. I feel less angsty when the ball is in the air because I know Byard is back there somewhere.
