The Florida Gators finally made the long-anticipated decision to move on from Billy Napier over the weekend, with the news breaking on Sunday afternoon that the fourth-year head coach down in Gainesville had finally been let go from the position.
With Napier’s departure from the program, the Gators not only lost their head coach, but their offensive play caller as well, as the former head man for the program occupied both roles over the course of his tenure.
This means that interim head coach Billy Gonzales has been tasked with naming a new play caller for the team, and he did so on Monday afternoon by slotting in quarterbacks coach Ryan O’Hara to the position over current offensive coordinator Russ Callaway.
“Coach Callaway is going to be the OC but I’m going to let Coach O’Hara call the plays,” Gonzales said on Monday, per Gators Wire’s Aiden Gallardo. “…I think it’s really important that the quarterback is the extension of his teacher.”

Now, he’ll be tasked with salvaging what’s left of the season for the Gators on offense, and attempting to keep the development of his star quarterback on track amid the coaching transition.
