The Bears won. So did the Blackhawks. The Cubs didn’t lose, so my blood pressure isn’t in another stratosphere. Neither did the Bulls, whose regular-season schedule begins this week. The White Sox didn’t lose either. But they haven’t played in a meaningful game since 2021. Ah, well, there’s always next year.
Hooray! The Chicago Bears are 4-2 and are riding their first four-game winning streak since 2018. That was a fun year. And, to this point, the vibes are similar. Bears fans have suffered enough to not enjoy this moment. Do I realize the Bears were 4-2 after six games last year? Yes. Do I care? No. This team isn’t that team. And that’s all you need to know about that.BEARS WEEK 7 WIN: Recap | Grades | Dennis Allen Appreciation | The Nightcap

— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) October 19, 2025 Now, that is how to successfully pull off a troll job on your opponent/brother. I hope you get a chance to re-watch Dennis Allen’s post-game victory speech, which is linked above. The Bears defensive coordinator makes strong points about putting your best foot forward even after being dissed and dismissed. The whole bit reminded me of something a friend once told me that went something like: “You might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ll be someone’s shot of whiskey.” Football often finds a way to teach life lessons. A random thought: What if Dennis Allen is the Steve Spagnuolo to Ben Johnson’s Andy Reid? OK, maybe that is asking a lot. But what if Dennis Allen is the Vic Fangio to Ben Johnson’s Nick Sirianni? Veteran defensive coordinator with head coaching experience playing the Robin role to the young head coach’s Batman makes sense in my head. Veteran Kevin Byard almost had a second interception on Saturday:C’mon shonny I need that t.co/O2EvIa0Sir
— Kevin Byard (@KevinByard) October 20, 2025 Let’s keep it a buck: Caleb Williams stunk yesterday. We’ll dive into that later. Right now, I can’t stop thinking about how the Bears were good enough elsewhere that it didn’t matter that Williams had a regression game. Those are going to happen from time-to-time when you’re watching a second-year quarterback develop. What good coaching and quality team-building can do is make sure that one game doesn’t become a string of games. Another thing that stunk on Sunday: Penalties. The Bears committed 10 penalties for 92 yards. That is too many penalties and too many yards allowed. The Saints were given four first downs due to penalties. That is unacceptable. Full stop. It brings me so much joy to see this offensive line provide this type of energy:this didn't end up not being ruled a TD, but the Bears are vibing right now.watch Caleb Williams and Joe Thuney pic.twitter.com/liIZjpkIM9
— Nate Tice (@Nate_Tice) October 19, 2025 The last two games have dinged Rome Odunze’s season-long pace, but I’m not too concerned about the second-year Bears wideout. However, it would be nice to see him come down with more contested catches moving forward. I’m not sure how one goes about getting better in that aspect of the game, but I trust Ben Johnson and his coaching staff to figure it out. Rookie tight end Colston Loveland’s four targets were the third most on the team. He turned those targets into three receptions and 24 receiving yards. The Saints entered Week 7 having allowed the 11th-most fantasy points against tight ends (h/t Yahoo! Fantasy Sports), so I was hoping this could be a Loveland breakout game. Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts are cooking with Tyler Warren. The Penn State product caught four passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Just another nice game for the second TE taken in the 2025 NFL Draft. I sure hope the Bears didn’t get too cute with their pick.BE SURE TO CHECK OUT BLEACHER NATION’S PODCASTS
Justin Fields is riding the struggle bus. The New York Jets quarterback was benched at halftime of Sunday’s 13-6 loss against the Carolina Panthers after putting up the following first-half stat line: 6/12, 46 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 59.7 passer rating. He was replaced by Tyrod Taylor (10/22, 126, 0 TD, 2 INT, 25.9 rating) and officially has Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn unsure about what he will do at the game’s most important position:One day after benching Justin Fields as his team fell to 0-7, #Jets coach Aaron Glenn says he’s consulting other coaches who have been in this position before deciding how to proceed at QB. pic.twitter.com/CFrq2W8fbO
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) October 20, 2025 Based on history, I’d start looking at 2026 NFL Draft prospects if I were running the Jets. As per usual, the Cardinals are a useless, good-for-nothing franchise. That sentence is usually reserved for the St. Louis-based baseball team, but is applicable today when discussing the Arizona Cardinals football squad. The Cards had a 13-3 lead over the Green Bay Packers late in the second quarter and held a 20-13 advantage going into the fourth. But once again, they weren’t able to hold the lead as the Packers executed a comeback on the road to win. Thanks for nothing, doofuses. The Minnesota Vikings lost in a controversial way, thanks in part to an overturned touchdown catch call that didn’t go their way. Tough break. Oh, well. Shout out to the Philadelphia Eagles, who went on the road and proved that the Vikings are beatable. I look forward to seeing the rematch against the Bears in Week 11.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION BEARS: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
