Weld County Road 34 to close through mid-December for roundabout construction

Weld County Road 34 between the east Interstate 25 frontage road and Weld County Road 13 will close Monday to install a roundabout at Weld 34 and Weld County Road 9.5 — what will be known as High Plains Boulevard, according to a Weld County news release.

The closure is expected to last through Dec. 22, according to the news release. Detours can be viewed on the Weld County Road Advisory Map at apps.weld.gov/publicworks/roadadvisory.

“Just as our other county roundabouts were built to reduce the likelihood of broadside (crashes) and increase the efficiency of traffic flow, we expect the ones planned for High Plains Boulevard to do the same,” Curtis Hall, Weld County director of public works, said in the news release. “We appreciate the public’s patience as we work to deliver this enhancement, which we believe will be a great asset toward moving traffic safely and efficiently through High Plains Boulevard and the WCR 34 intersection when they’re complete.”

Full construction of the roundabout will be implemented in phases. Utility installations and box culverts, which assist in drainage, will make up much of the work during this roughly nine-week closure, according to the release.

Residents will still be able to access homes and businesses during the closure.

“One of the primary motivating factors for the construction of High Plains Boulevard is to provide another safe and efficient north and south route throughout a busy and growing portion of the county,” Jason Maxey, Weld County commissioner and commissioner coordinator of public works, said in the release. “Roundabouts help us do that.”
