Oakland-born, former All-Pro RB Doug Martin dies at 36

(KRON) -- Former NFL All-Pro running back Doug Martin has died at the age of 36, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed on social media Sunday. Martin spent six of his seven NFL seasons in Tampa Bay from 2012-2017 and played his final season with the Oakland Raiders in 2018

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Doug Martin," the Buccaneers wrote on X. "Doug made a lasting impact on our franchise. He was a fan favorite during his time in Tampa Bay and was honored as one of the Top 50 Buccaneers of all time for his numerous achievements."

    According to a family statement to Fox Sports, Martin passed away Saturday morning; the cause of his death is unknown at this time.

    Martin was born in Oakland and grew up in Stockton, Calif., where he attended St. Mary's High School. He played college football at Boise State and was drafted in the first round (31st overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft.

    Martin had a career year in 2015 when he was named first-team All-Pro after rushing for 1,402 yards and six touchdowns.
