SODUS, N.Y. — Skeletal remains found Oct. 15 in Sodus have been confirmed to be human, New York State Police confirmed Sunday, Oct. 19.
According to troopers, a property owner located the remains in a wooded area off Champlin Road in the town of Sodus and contacted 911. Members of the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Identification Unit responded, and search efforts continued over the following days with help from the NYSP Canine Unit and the Wayne County coroner. Searchers found more bones while excavating the area.
A forensic anthropologist conducted a preliminary examination and determined that the remains are believed to be human. They were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office for further analysis and identification.
The investigation is continuing, according to NYSP.
