Fantasy Football D/ST Rankings, Who Should I Add Off Waiver Wires:

The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots were the highest recommended D/ST waiver wire pickups this week.

Analysis

Chiefs — Rostered in 55% of Yahoo Leagues

While they haven’t been all that great for fantasy, the Chiefs have a solid real-world defense and face Geno Smith’s Raiders next week. Smith has been abysmal this year — 10 interceptions in six games, among other discouraging stats, which means he’s a great target for streaming defenses. And the Vegas offense hasn’t scored 25+ points yet in a game. Sign me up.

Patriots — Rostered in 48% of Yahoo Leagues

The Patriots get Cam Ward’s Titans and then Dillon Gabriel’s Browns the next couple of weeks, and then after a so-so matchup with Baker Mayfield’s Bucs, they get the Jets, Bengals, and Giants the next three games. It’s undoubtedly the best schedule over the next couple of months, and they’ve been decent to good in good matchups so far. Pick them up and stream them for the foreseeable future.

What is another Matchup to Exploit in the Fantasy Football Defense Rankings?

The Cleveland Browns stick out with a positive matchup during Week 7. 

Analysis

While it’s been incredibly relieving to see De’Von Achane and Jaylen Waddle rip off chunk gains in a post-Tyreek Hill world, it’s still not quite enough for us to avoid targeting D/STs when they welcome the Dolphins into town. A lot of that has to do with Tua Tagovailoa’s league-leading 11 turnover-worthy plays that have led to seven interceptions, and a 20.6% pressure-to-sack rate, which ranks 27th out of 33 qualifying quarterbacks.

Many of those pressures have come from the middle of the line, where rookie Jonah Savaiinaea is having a difficult time getting his footing. Savaiinaea’s 95.0 pass-blocking efficiency metric ranks 56th out of 57 qualifying guards, with his 19 pressures allowed “leading” the league.

There is always the threat of Myles Garrett coming off the edge, regardless of how strong the opposing offensive line is, but DTs Maliek Collins (15% – 6th) and Mason Graham (13% – 11th) also rank in the top-20 in ESPN’s pass-rush win rate at the position. Cleveland is still only rostered in 43% of Yahoo leagues, if you missed out on a good unit through the waiver run. With multiple pressure points across the Miami line and Tua’s turnover issues lingering, the Browns offer sneaky week-winning upside for fantasy managers who stream defenses.
