Bears 25, Commanders 24: The Jake Moody Game

That’s three wins in a row for the Chicago Bears, who snatched victory from the jaws of defeat for a second straight week. This is not a game last year’s Bears win. But the thing about last year’s Bears is that they’re not this year’s Bears.

Thoughts on the big win on Monday Night Football

The Chicago Bears don’t win this game if they would’ve won last year’s game against the Washington Commanders. The Fail Mary Game ultimately got the ball rolling that led to Matt Eberflus’ dismissal and (eventually) the hiring of Ben Johnson. All is well that ends well as far as I am concerned. D’Andre Swift deserves a game ball, a pat on the back, the big piece of chicken, and whatever he desires this week. It has not been easy watching Swift this season. But he ran with a purpose, gutted out some tough yards at the end, and even scored an important touchdown. Racking up 175 yards from scrimmage marks the best performance from a Swift this month. Hopefully, the Swifties don’t hold this take against me. Instant Bears Player Grades: The Bears Win Another Nail-Biter Jake Moody. Holy cow. I did not know you had this in your bag. Four made field goals (including the game-winner) after being elevated from the practice squad about four hours before kickoff is one of the wildest stories you’ll see this year. I’ll say this about the officiating tonight: That was the kind of performance that will keep a crew from getting a playoff game. That doesn’t make me feel any better now. But if the Bears find their way into the postseason, this crew better not have any members participating in any win-or-go-home games.

    Three Bears

Caleb Williams — Here is the line for QB1 now that the dust has settled from Monday Night Football:

    17/29 252 yards 1 touchdown, 0 interceptions 98.6 passer rating

Caleb Williams made big plays when it mattered most. He missed some throws. I expect Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson to highlight a handful of throws that QB1 could’ve made. But overall, Caleb continues to look better every week.

Dayo Odeyingbo — Just one solo tackle for Dayo tonight. Not my best call.

Theo Benedet — I’m not going to hold it against him that he was called for an egregious penalty. But I need some time to look over his tape before giving him a fair grade.

WHAT’S NEXT: vs. New Orleans Saints at noon CT on Oct. 19 (FOX-TV)

After sandwiching the bye week between a pair of road games, Chicago returns to play at Soldier Field on Sunday. It will mark the team’s first home game since beating the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, which happened 22 days ago. Doesn’t it feel longer than that? Time is a human construct anyway. But I digress.
