A Lightening Fast Offense, Patrick Williams Impresses(!?), Josh Giddey’s Best Game, and Other Bulls Bullets

The Milwaukee Bucks ended the Chicago Bulls’ perfect preseason on Sunday night, but it still may have been the team’s best performance yet.

The more we see this group on the floor together, the more encouraged I am about the identity they’re forming. Yes, the defensive end will remain a big question mark, but this team is going to keep games close against some of the league’s best simply because of their offensive production. They are picking up right where they left off last season as one of the NBA’s fastest squads, holding the fourth-highest PACE in the NBA. They’re also currently second in fastbreak points per game and fifth in assist percentage. Sure, these may merely be preseason numbers, but I think we can expect a level of crossover once the regular season tips off. This is how they want to play, and they set the foundation for that last season. I mean, look at how beautiful this transition play was in the fourth quarter. They practically had a dunk in three seconds! The Bucks had no clue how to keep up.

    — Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) October 13, 2025 Even more encouraging, the offense is looking a lot more well-rounded. If there is anything that plagued the Bulls’ offense last season, it was free-throw rate. The strides they’ve taken in this department have continued to stand out to me, as they got to the line for 36 free throw attempts against Milwaukee. Let the record show they have now shot 29+ freebies in each of their three exhibition games after doing it a total of only SIX times in 2024-25. Their 97 total attempts in the preseason are sixth-highest in the NBA. We know they’ve talked a lot about being a more physical team this season on defense, but I think this mentality is seeping over to their offensive game, as well. After talking about some positive flashes from Patrick Williams in this weekend’s notes, we saw even more on Sunday night! Billy Donovan had the forward as his 7th man once again, and Williams responded with one of his better all-around performances in quite some time. He finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in 24 minutes of work. Those latter two categories really stood out to me. Fans have complained for years about Williams’ lack of impact on the boards. Williams has been one of the Bulls’ strongest and most physically intimidating players, so nothing was more frustrating than seeing him refuse to crash the glass. Last night felt different, though. He was consistently putting himself in a position to contest and dove toward the rim whenever a shot went up. Can he keep that up? Patrick Williams of the Chicago Bulls – © Kyle Ross-Imagn Images As for the playmaking, while I don’t expect him to be some kind of go-to ballhandler, this is an offense that has to run on quick decision-making. Williams did a great job being decisive with the basketball last night and dished some much-needed entry passes. Look, Williams doesn’t have to be some kind of high-volume scorer, especially on this team. All he has to do is be opportunistic. One of the most fascinating things about Williams has always been his versatility and athleticism. Go out there, make smart decisions, and be assertive. That’s how you can impact winning. Billy Donovan spoke about Williams after the game, underscoring that consistency is key …

    — CHGO Bulls (@CHGO_Bulls) October 13, 2025 Josh Giddey also had his best performance of the preseason. The guard looked more like his end-of-year self with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. He did a great job attacking the basket (5-8 FT) and minimized his mistakes with his first no-turnover effort since March 19. Let’s hope this is a sign of what’s to come later this month. Lol Matas Buzelis wasn’t even old enough to drink until now …
