Flames at vacant house on Reed Park takes 40 firefighters to battle

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Fire Department is working to determine what caused flames to break out at a vacant house on Sunday at Reed Park on the city’s northeast side.

Firefighters arrived at the two-story house, between North Street and Hudson Avenue, just after 7 p.m. RFD originally thought people could be trapped inside but didn’t find anyone after searching the house.

“On the side of the structure, we had one of the exterior walls burn right through. No one was found in the structure,” RFD Lt. Jackie Sierra said.

RFD says crews had to remove boards to get inside and used multiple hose lines. They found the fire on the first and second floors, along with the basement.

The fire took around 20 minutes to get under control and took around 40 firefighters to battle. No one was hurt.
