Casas won the World Cup title in a time of 1:49.43, which shaved .08 seconds off his time from December’s World Short Course Championships as the fastest-ever by an American. It also beat the U.S. Open Record of 1:50.76 set by Japan’s Daiya Seto in 2019 at an ISL meet. That makes Casas the fastest swimmer of any nationality on American soil.
Casas was almost exactly on pace in the front half of the race, but really changed the back-half of his race. He was about half-a-second slower on the breaststroke leg than he was in December, and about the same amount faster on the freestyle leg to finish the race.
