Sir Jim Ratcliffe has given Ruben Amorim a three-year deadline to turn things around at Manchester United.
Amorim was appointed in the Red Devils hotseat in November 2024, tasked with getting back competing at the top.
However, things have gone the opposite of what’s been desired at Old Trafford under Amorim’s tutelage with Man United experiencing incredible lows.
While they made it to the Europa League final last season, Man United recorded their lowest league finish in Premier League history as they came 15th.
They’ve made a stuttering start to this campaign having lost three of their seven league matches this term.
Meanwhile, they suffered a hugely embarrassing exit against League Two Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup back in August.
Amorim, appointed as Erik ten Hag’s successor in November 2024, is yet to record back-to-back wins as Man United boss, and calls for his head from fans are growing by the day.
It appears for the foreseeable that those calls will not be answered by Man United co-owner Ratcliffe, who insists he will not be sucked into making any knee-jerk decisions, especially when it comes to Amorim’s future.
However, Ratcliffe also issued a warning to the 40-year-old that there must be clear signs of improvement over the next three years.
“He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be,” Ratcliffe told The Times podcast.
“The press, sometimes I don’t understand. They want overnight success. They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow.
“You can’t run a club like United on knee-jerk reactions to the press who goes off/on one every week.”
