Erin Murphy frequently shares memories of her years as a child star on the sitcom Bewitched. The actress played Tabitha Stephens in 103 episodes of the ABC fantasy comedy, from 1966 to 1972, per IMDb.
In an October 2025 Facebook post, Murphy shared a photo from one of the most beloved episodes of the series and included some backstory on it. The episode, titled “A Safe and Sane Halloween,” originally aired on October 26, 1967, when Murphy was just three years old.
Murphy captioned a photo of herself in a leopard print cat costume, revealing that she remembered filming the holiday-themed episode in the summertime when she was a toddler.
“We filmed the Safe & Sane Halloween episode of Bewitched during the summer,” Murphy wrote. “I remember being very hot in my little leopard costume & gloves. I always loved filming exteriors at the Warner Brothers Ranch. We all called it ‘The Ranch’.”
The “Ranch” was home to exterior shots for a long list of Screen Gems/ Columbia Pictures television shows, including Father Knows Best, Dennis the Menace, Hazel, I Dream of Jeannie, The Monkees, The Partridge Family, and many more, per The Studio Tour website.
In 2024, Murphy told Fox News that she loved filming the episode where mini-witch Tabitha went trick-or-treating with goblins she zapped out of a storybook—despite the hot costume she had to wear.
“That was super fun to shoot because now most of the time we would shoot at Screen Gems...the old Screen Gems studio at the corner of Sunset and Gower [in Hollywood]," she recalled. "But anything like that, where we’d be outside, we would shoot at the ranch in the [San Fernando] Valley. So, it was always fun to go there, because then on breaks I’d be outside and I could, like, walk around and see the other sets. And it was fun to shoot there.”
Murphy has also said she liked filming episodes that included other kids. While the ghosts and goblins in “A Safe and Sane Halloween” were actually adult actors Jerry Maren (Gremlin), Felix Silla (Goblin), and Billy Curtis (as Jack-o-Lantern), child actor Bobby Riha appeared in the episode as nosy neighbor Gladys Kravitz’s (Sandra Gould) nephew Tommy, who went trick or treating with Tabitha.
While she was very young when she started on Bewitched, Murphy has said that she remembers “a lot” from filming the show nearly 50 years ago.
In a 2020 interview with Closer Weekly, she said, "I have memories, obviously, from what I see on camera. But I also remember things about, ‘Oh yeah, that’s the day when … ,’ and I remember something we had for lunch that day, or I remember, like, the things that happened behind the scenes. So it’s great to have the shows to watch, but I remember a lot of it. “
