Detectives raid shuttered pet cremation business in San Marcos

Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at Angel Paws Pet Cremation in San Marcos Friday as part of a criminal investigation, authorities said.

Few details were released, but the San Diego Sheriff’s Office said the warrant was served at the business, located at 120 N. Pacific St., “in connection with active investigative efforts. No other information is available at this time.”

    The business shut down without warning on Sept. 30, leaving many grieving owners seeking their pets’ remains, CBS8 reported. Sheriff’s personnel were summoned to the business that day to assist them.

    The station spoke by text with Angel Paws’ owner, who told reporters he was being evicted but hoped to get all his customers their remains back.

    A check of the business’ website Friday revealed that the site was suspended.

    Sheriff’s officials said anyone with information related to Angel Paws Pet Cremation or who believes they may have been a victim of a financial crime should contact the San Marcos sheriff’s station at 760-510-5200.
