A 70-year-old man was struck by a motorist Friday while turning out of a bike lane near Interstate 8, authorities said.
Officers responded around 2:45 p.m. to the 4100 block of Sports Arena Boulevard regarding reports of a collision involving a bicyclist, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The bicyclist was struck by a 1992 Mazda pickup truck driven by a 29- year-old man traveling northbound in the adjacent lane. The bicyclist turned left from the bike lane into the path of the vehicle, police said.
Paramedics took the bicyclist to a hospital for treatment of fractured ribs, a broken tibia, a fibula fracture and a collapsed lung.
SDPD’s Traffic Division is investigating. Anyone with additional information was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
