Hilton Apple Festival (Saturday and Sunday)
The 43rd annual Hilton Apple Festival is taking place this weekend. Local apple growers will sell all kinds of apple-related foods in the village at the festival farm market. There will also be over 140 vendors selling handmade arts, holiday gifts, and food.
On Saturday, the Hilton Apple Fest Auto Show returns, one of the largest in the area. This year’s competition celebrates the muscle car, with an awards ceremony at 4 p.m. There will also be children’s activities, including The Happy Pirates, Magic Joe, and a rock climbing wall, and fishing for apples.
Inside the Hilton Village Community Center, guests can check out the “All the Feels” photo contest. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Walk to End Alzheimer’s (Saturday)
A walk on Saturday at Innovative Field aims to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association. The opening ceremony begins at 10 a.m. for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Participants will walk laps around the field for a total of about one mile. You can register for the walk and donate here. Parking will be available in Lot D. Every registered participant who reaches the fundraising goal of $100 will get an official Walk to End Alzheimer’s t-shirt.
Wellness fair at Greece Town Hall (Saturday)
Assemblyman Josh Jensen is hosting his fourth annual health and wellness fair on Saturday at The Center at Greece Town Hall.
It’s in partnership with Rochester Regional Health and the University of Rochester Medical Center. Local organizations will provide health-related information and services such as flu shots and breast cancer screenings. It runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can see a list of organizations attending here.
Italian American Heritage Day at Rochester Public Market (Sunday)
Italian culture will be on full display at the Rochester Public Market on Sunday. The market is partnering with Cugini di Roc for the third annual Italian Heritage Day.
Guests can enjoy classic Italian food and learn the Italian language with the help of RIT and Nazareth students. They will also collect oral histories from attendees to share with the City of Rochester/Monroe County’s archivist. Admission is free and the event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
There will also be booths focusing on Italian heritage, including on winemaking, gesturing, Rochester’s sister city, and Italian-American genealogy. A children’s area will offer Italian storytelling, face painting, chalk drawing, crafts, grape stomping, and more. Other activities include a photo booth with props, flower arranging, and bead and pasta making demonstrations.
New this year, there will be a speaker series at Best Coffee at the Market Cafe. It will include four topics: Italian American History and Memory in Rochester, Being Italian: Culture and Values, Dual Citizenship, and The Oral History Project: Archives and Migration Stories.
Latin American Festival at International Plaza (Sunday)
The International Plaza’s event series continues on Sunday with the Latin American Festival. There will be traditional Latin food, music, and theater. That includes a special preview performance of Geva Theatre’s upcoming play, “Sancocho”.
The festival runs from 1 to 6 p.m. One of the highlights will be the “Sancocho Cook-Off”. Chefs and community groups will compete with their unique take on the traditional stew. Dishes must be ready by 2 p.m. You can learn how to sign up for the competition here.
