How Harry Kane inspired two Champions league goals in matches he didn’t play in

Harry Kane was credited by two Champions League goalscorers after the latest round of matches.

Kane had been on the score sheet for the German champions as they continued their winning start to the league phase on Tuesday.

His brace helped Bayern secure a 5-1 win in Cyprus over Champions League debutants Pafos.

However, he also played a role in Paris Saint-Germain’s last minute winner in Barcelona, according to Goncalo Ramos.

The Portuguese striker revealed after the match that he had watched Kane score a similar goal in a previous meeting with Barca.

PSG came from behind to win 2-1 on Wednesday, with substitute Ramos scoring the winner.

The visitors had beaten their opponents’ high line before Achraf Hakimi’s low cross was converted by Ramos.

His effort was eerily similar to Kane’s goal against Barca for Bayern last October.

Speaking after the match, Ramos explained: “We have very fast players coming from the back, and even against teams like FC Barcelona.

“There’s a video of Harry Kane from two seasons ago, doing something similar to what I did, and he also scored.”

Ramos was not the only player to be influenced by Kane during matchday two, though.

The England captain’s former team-mate Eric Dier also took inspiration for his penalty heroics against Manchester City.

Dier stepped up to convert a last-minute spot-kick in Monaco’s 2-2 draw on Wednesday night.

It came after a VAR review had penalised a foul on the former Tottenham defender.

His converted effort was the first penalty of his career excluding shootouts.

Dier had previously scored from 12 yards in the Three Lions’ spot-kick triumph over Colombia at the 2018 World Cup.

After the match, he admitted: “I practiced penalties, I was ready to take it.

“I dedicated the penalty to my friend Harry Kane. I watched him for a long time and learned a few things that I’ve brought here.”

Dier and Kane have played alongside each other 402 times across their careers for Spurs, Bayern and England as well as at youth level for the national team.

In contrast, Kane has scored 95 out of 107 penalties during his career, excluding shootouts.

He has also only missed once in a competitive match since the start of 2023, scoring 36 times from the penalty spot across the same period.

How has Harry Kane performed this season?

His brace against Pafos has also continued his stunning scoring streak so far this season.

Following those goals, Kane has now found the net 17 times in just nine appearances across all competitions.

Meanwhile, he became the quickest player to reach 100 goals for a club last weekend with two goals against Werder Bremen.

Since joining Bayern in 2023, Kane has 102 goals to his name in 105 matches.
