Manny Machado, an extremely productive long-time veteran player, was asked a pretty typical end-of-season question after the loss. Yet he reacted like it was an idiotic or offensive question, the likes of which he’s never heard before:

We have seen this question, or variations of it, asked in A THOUSAND clubhouses after a THOUSAND end-of-season losses. It’s a completely appropriate, and completely benign, question to be asked of star veterans when the season is at a close, regardless of how it ended. Machado’s reaction is bizarre, at best.
“What type of question is that, dude? My guy, how do I assess the season? We just lost. How do you think I assess the season? How do you think I assess it?”
“I don’t know. That’s why I was asking.”
“You tell me. What’s a loss? We lost. How do you assess it? It’s a loss. You lost. Come on, dude. You know what I mean. You could ask better questions than that. Let’s go. Come on.” [turns to the PR person to head out, and says “appreciate it” to everyone before turning back to the reporter] “You’re gonna wait to the last second to ask that question? Come on, bro. You know better than that.”
Bizarre. At best. Rude and oddly defensive, at worst. We all get that it’s a hot moment and it sucks to lose. No one is expecting you to be HAPPY in that moment. But that’s a fair question, and one I’d think a lot of fans would want to hear the team’s veteran leader expound upon.
