Robbie Williams is opening up about a devastating health issue.
The British pop singer, 51, who found superstardom as a member of the boy band Take That before launching a solo career with hits like "Millennium" and "Angels," appeared on the Oct. 2 episode of Paul Whitehouse and Dr. Mine Conkbayir's I'm ADHD! No You're Not podcast and revealed that he has Tourette syndrome, PEOPLE reported.
"I’ve just realised that I have Tourette’s, but they don’t come out,” Williams said on the show, claiming that his tics are "intrusive thoughts.”
“They are intrusive thoughts that happen. I was just walking down the road the other day and I realized that these intrusive thoughts are inside Tourettes,” Williams shared. “Not only that, you would think that a stadium full of people professing their love to you would work [as a distraction], but whatever it is, inside me, cannot hear it. I cannot take it in.”
The CDC defines Tourette syndrome as a condition of the nervous system often defined by sudden, repetitive sounds or movements, often known as tics, that can be triggered by factors such as stress, excitement, or tiredness.
Williams went on to say that he also believes he has "autistic traits."
“It turns out I'm not [autistic], but I've got autistic traits. And it's around, social stuff, it's about interaction,” he continued.

Despite being quite famous, Williams explained that he struggles tremendously with his mental health while touring. Back in May, he kicked off his Britpop tour, but he found the experience to be quite tough.
“I have a very complicated relationship with touring and performing live. People say: ‘Oh, you're going on tour? You must be really, really excited.’ Not really. I’m terrified," said Williams, the Independent reported. “I mask, like I’m an Olympian at masking. I will look full of bravado and look pompous and look smug and do these grand gestures, which have worked for me because they put my face on the poster and people still buy tickets but actually what’s happening is I feel like the opposite of that all the time, most of the time."
Williams Credits His Wife With Helping Him
William credits his wife, Ayda Field Williams, with helping him change his perspective about performing live. She taught him to emphasize how lucky he is to do the job, and points out that he may not get the chance to play in a stadium again.
“There was something about that moment in particular that just changed the perception, and the gratitude came in for where I am, who I am, what I’m allowed to do, what they allow me to do, what I experience," Williams told the publication. “And in that moment, thinking about maybe never being able to do it again because of waning popularity or death or whatever it is, in that moment, it just changed my perception."
