Dana White reveals UFC will stomach eye-watering $700k gardening bill to host card at White House

The UFC White House card is shaping up to be one of the most expensive events Dana White has ever put on.

With Conor McGregor expected to headline, there are sure to be some big cheques thrown around, but before fighter pay has even been taken into consideration, money will have to be put aside for an eye-watering gardening bill.

In order to host the event at the President’s official residence, the UFC will have to shell out $700,000 just to replace the grass on the iconic South Lawn, where the Octagon is set to be positioned.

“There is no doubt about it, this is going to be the most challenging event we have ever done,” White told the Sports Business Journal.

“I’m coming off a stadium event, which I don’t like stadiums, to the thing that I hate the most in outdoor events.

“So yes, we got through the Sphere, made it through [Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford] at Allegiant Stadium; now we head into Washington, D.C., on the White House lawn.

“This is just one little piece I was talking about last night: To replace the grass, because we’re going to f*** up the South Lawn, $700,000 just to replace the grass.”

The wheels are in motion for the event to take place next June in commemoration of the United States’ 50th anniversary.

UFC executives and members of President Donald Trump’s administration are still ironing out the details, but everything is beginning to take shape.

Last month, White shared early renderings of the event to Fox News.

These images show a huge arch, lined with lighting systems that the UFC plans to build over the top of the Octagon.

“My vision for this thing is we have this big arch, as you can see, with the lighting grid,” said White.

The Octagon will be placed on the South Lawn in front of the White HouseUFC

“Because what I want is the White House in the back.

“And then when the fight goes around to the other side, you’ll see the Washington Monument in the background.’’

White plans to fit 85,000 people at The Ellipse for a viewing party.

However, only 5,000 spectators will get the opportunity to witness the unprecedented card up close.

“Yeah, we can fit 85,000 people over there,’’ White added.

“We’re going to have a stage where bands will be playing all day.

“And then people will be able to bring blankets and lie around and watch the fights.

“We’ll have screens up everywhere for everybody. We’re literally going to take over Washington, D.C., that week.”

White also plans to host the weigh-ins in front of the Lincoln Memorial and has promised to put on the UFC fan expo in Washington D.C., during fight week.
