A ninth Masters title is not in Ronnie O’Sullivan’s immediate plans.
Speaking exclusively on talkSPORT Drive, the snooker icon revealed he is unlikely to have a presence at next year’s Masters in January as part of a scaled-back schedule.
What does O’Sullivan’s schedule over the coming months look like?
“I probably won’t play the Masters this year,” O’Sullivan said.
“I moved to Dubai, a lot of my work is in China and the Middle East so it made sense to be near. The jet lag was crucifying. It’s not that easy to just get on a plane and come back to the UK.
“I think I’m just going to play the UK Championship, hopefully the Tour Championship if I’ve done enough, which I think I have because I did well in Saudi.
“Then the World Championship, it would be nice to win that one more time before I snap another cue.”
One event in O’Sullivan’s horizon is the UK Championship, which he confirmed he plans to return for.
It is a tournament he has won a record eight times, with his most recent triumph coming in 2023 when he beat China’s Ding Junhui.
O’Sullivan’s record at the World Championship
In a dream world, O’Sullivan would also like to win another competition for an eighth time: the World Championship.
To date, O’Sullivan has been crowned world champion seven times.
However, he has not tasted success at the Crucible since 2022.
And in a strikingly honest response, O’Sullivan isn’t exactly craving the chance to break the drought.
‘The Rocket’ did not win a single ranking tournament across the 2024/25 snooker seasonGettyYet he feels he has the perfect game to give himself the best possible chance to do so.
“I’ve never been driven by titles,” O’Sullivan said.
“Listen, I’ll take one. That makes sense to make that (World Championship) the main focus. Which I probably will. In the back of my mind, I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s just get ready for Sheffield for the next three years.’
“Whatever happens in-between, it’s not really that important other than to just enjoy it, try and nick a couple of tournaments if I can.
“But obviously Sheffield is a different beast. It’s not an easy place to play. Longer frames, it suits my style of play.
“I sort of plod along, which you need to be at Sheffield. There’s no point being great one minute and then terrible the next.
