Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton might be best known for his racing career, but fans also adore him for his sweet relationship with his dog, Roscoe, and now, he's sharing some devastating news about his beloved bulldog.
In the early hours of Monday, Sept. 29, Hamilton took to Instagram to share that the time had come to say goodbye to 12-year-old Roscoe, who died on Sunday night "in my arms" following a battle with pneumonia.

Sharing photos with Roscoe that had been taken over the years, Hamilton wrote that he had to make "the hardest decision of my life" and let his dog go after he'd been on life support for four days.
"He never stopped fighting, right until the very end," Hamilton wrote. "I feel so grateful and honoured to have shared my life with such a beautiful soul, an angel and true friend."
Adding that this was the first time he'd ever had to put a dog to sleep, Hamilton called it "one of the most painful experiences."
"Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life, to love so deeply and to be loved in return," Hamilton continued. "Thank you all for the love and support you’ve shown Roscoe over the years. It has been so special to witness and feel."
It didn't take long for the condolences to begin pouring in, including plenty of messages from fans who have loved watching Hamilton's relationship with Roscoe on both social media and even in person at his races.
"Rest in peace, Roscoe, and know that you were so loved by so many," one fan commented.
How Did Lewis Hamilton's Dog Roscoe Die?
In recent weeks, Hamilton has been open about Roscoe's health issues. On Sept. 24, he asked his fans to keep Roscoe in their prayers after the dog had been through a "scary few hours."
Another sad update came on Saturday, when Hamilton canceled his appearance at Milan Fashion Week just one day before his dog's death, sharing that he needed to be with Roscoe instead.
"Roscoe caught pneumonia again and was struggling to breathe," Hamilton wrote in a post on Instagram. "He was admitted into hospital and sedated to calm him while they did checks on him and during the process his heart stopped. They managed to get a heartbeat back and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support."
It certainly seems that Hamilton made the right decision to stay with Roscoe and spend more precious time with his dog. There's no doubt that his adorable pup will be so missed — both by Hamilton and by the fans who have come to love him.
