Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson was reportedly jumped and robbed during the team’s trip to Dublin, Ireland.
Thompson, 28, suffered minor injuries during the incident, which happened on Friday, September 26, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
The quarterback, who is on injured reserve, is back with the team.
The Steelers are in Dublin to take on the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park on Sunday, September 28.

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” Steelers spokesperson Burt Lauten said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”
Thompson was placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in practice earlier this month.
A graduate of Kansas State University, Thompson was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He appeared in seven games for the Dolphins during his rookie season, starting in two.
The quarterback was signed to a reserve/future contract by the Steelers in January.
Thompson got married to his wife, Bre, in April.
Last month, Thompson was a surprise addition to the Steelers’ 53-man roster after a strong performance during training camp and preseason.
“I was very confident in the work I put in this preseason,” Thompson told reporters. “What I put on tape, I had confidence whether it was going to be here [in Pittsburgh] or somewhere else, that was going to be the best move for me. That really set me free. A guy in my shoes, you have to make the most of your opportunities. I just felt like my mind was on the right things, so whenever the opportunity presented itself, I felt free and felt ready, and was able to play confident.”
Aaron Rodgers is the Steelers starting quarterback, after the future Hall of Famer signed a one-year, $13.6 million contract with the team in June.
Aaron Rodgers Gave a Shout-Out to Mystery Wife After 1st Win as Steeler
Before the Steelers traveled to Dublin for Sunday’s game, Rodgers, 41, lamented the fact that the team wouldn’t have more time to explore Ireland.
“It is what it is, but if the schedule had been a little different, if I could have chosen it, maybe we get over on Monday,” he told reporters on Friday, September 26. “Tuesday is the day off. Good to get out, see some things. It’s a beautiful country, it seems like, from pictures.”
Rodgers added, “I have a family history going back to Ireland and Scotland, so I’ve always wanted to get over here. I’m a historian, so I know, kind of, the history, geopolitically, in the area. I’m a huge fan of Guinness. I don’t really drink beer, but if I do, I drink Guinness. That’s not a bulls*** line that I’m telling you guys. It’s the truth. I’ve heard it tastes different off the tap in Ireland than the States. I’ve been in Northern [Ireland], and it was great, but I’m excited about seeing what it tastes like here.”
The Steelers are 2-1 to start the season, finding themselves in a first-place tie with the Cincinnati Bengals atop the AFC North.
