UNC entered the second half locked in a scoreless tie for the second consecutive game, but Boston College broke that tie early in the third quarter to take a 1-0 lead. The Tar Heels put sustained pressure on the Eagle cage throughout the second half, but could not find a way through the Boston College defense until the final minutes.
Isabel Boere finally secured a UNC breakthrough with 8:22 remaining in the game, knocking in the equalizing goal after an initial shot from Ryleigh Heck was saved on a Tar Heel penalty corner.
Heck played a major role in Carolina’s go-ahead goal five minutes later, going down in the Boston College shooting circle to earn a Tar Heel penalty stroke. Sanne Hak stepped to the spot to take the stroke and delivered, giving UNC its first lead of the day.

Boston College wasn’t able to find an equalizer in the final minutes. The UNC defense held the Eagles without a shot on goal after their only goal of the day. Overall, the Tar Heels held a 17-7 edge in total shots and a 13-2 advantage in shots on target.
The win helped Carolin avoid suffering consecutive losses for the first time in head coach Erin Matson’s three seasons in charge. The Tar Heels are now 9-1 overall and 3-1 in ACC play. The team will be back in action when it visits Old Dominion in Norfolk, VA next Sunday at 1 p.m.
