Erica Stoll was reportedly reduced to tears in the aftermath of abuse from crowd members at the Ryder Cup.
Stoll was in attendance at Bethpage Black on Saturday as husband Rory McIlroy helped fire Team Europe into their huge 11.5-4.5 lead.
However, they were the target of shocking verbal abuse as talkSPORT heard comments aimed at McIlroy about the pair’s marriage.
Stoll, who is American, was unable to continue following his fourball match with Shane Lowry against Justin Thomas and Cam Young.
She appeared on the 18th green to congratulate McIlroy, although a report from The 42 says she had ‘tears streaming down her face’.
A video on social media also shows McIlroy comforting his wife, who apparently had a drink thrown at her.
McIlroy appears to wipe something off her hat and ask, ‘Are you OK?’

Whilst chants and cheeky jibes are part of the Ryder Cup festivities, this year’s competition has been overshadowed by unsavoury scenes.
Team Europe have been distracted by yells on their backswings and called for the match referee to intervene.
McIlroy could also be seen mouthing, ‘I’m not going to putt until they shut up’.
This came after he told United States supporters to ‘Shut the f*** up’ in response to their attempted distraction.

Team Europe staff were left angered and the presence of a police officer caused the spectator to scurry away.
Another was ejected by police after a fight in the grandstands.
Sunday will see the conclusion of the 2025 Ryder Cup, with Europe in pole position to retain their title.
The singles matches are all that remain for the United States and Europe, although Viktor Hovland has withdrawn through injury.
He was due to face Harris English and as per the envelope rule, he will sit out and the match is halved to take the score to 12-5 to Europe.
