The 2025 European Open Water Cup came to a close today in Razanac, Croatia. Poland’s Klaudia Tarasiewicz and Bartosz Kapala swept the final 10k race, while Lisa Pou of Monaco and Italy’s Fabio Dalu earned the overall trophy for the five-stop cup.
One day shy of his 19th birthday, Kapala churned out the best result of his young career. He perfectly timed a tail-end surge to win in 1:51:05. The Pole said he wasn’t able to drink at the feeding stop during the fifth lap, but despite this, it was his “greatest success ever”. Two seconds later, Hungary’s David Betlehem, who won the penultimate stop of the cup in Barcelona last week, touched in silver.
Representing Mexico, 19-year-old Paulo Strehlke Delgado touched third, producing the same result he did at this stop last year. Behind Strehlke was Italian staple Andrea Filadelli.
Today’s fifth-place finisher, Fabio Dalu of Italy, was the Cup’s overall winner thanks to a consistent showing in all five stops. Dalu kept the cup in Italian hands, as Filadelli was the 2024 winner of the circuit.
The women’s race, meanwhile, saw Pole Klaudia Tarasiewicz win on back-to-back weekends. She followed her up her Barcelona victory last Saturday with a 1:58:41 effort today, holding off two-time World Champion Lea Boy by .7. Boy and fellow Germane Celine Rieder reaped the minor medals.
Despite winning three out of the five stops, Tarasiewicz was not the overall cup champion. This accolade goes to Monacan Lisa Pou. Finishing in sixth place today, Pou leveraged her consistency and a first-place finish at the Paris stop to top the overall field today, taking the crown from 2024 champion Ines Delacroix. Earlier this year, Pou earned Monaco its first World Championships medal after switching nationalities from French. Now, she gives the sovereign city-state its first European Open Water Cup title.
With the conclusion of the European Cup, one major event remains on the 2025 open water calendar. The final stop of the 2025 World Cup will take place October 10-11 in Sardinia’s Golfo Aranci. Germany’s Florian Wellbrock and Australia’s Moesha Johnson lead the respective men’s and women’s world rankings heading into the competition.
