Iran has withdrawn its ambassador to the UK and called him back to Tehran, according the country’s state media service.
The MEHR news agency says that Seyed Ali Mousavi has been brought back from London following the reinstatement of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic, which are set to begin at 1am Sunday UK time.
The Iranian ambassadors to Germany and France have also been recalled, after the three countries wrote to the UN Security Council last month, accusing Iran of failing to fulfil its commitments regarding its nuclear programme.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has condemned the re-imposition of international sanctions as “unfair, unjust, and illegal”.
