Artists Unlimited opens new rehearsal space for musicals

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Artists Unlimited cut the ribbon on its new rehearsal space on Wednesday, giving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities a space to practice for musicals.

The new space, Studio 44, is located on Dewey Avenue. Founders Ed and Debbie Schram say their performers just need a chance to show people what they’re capable of.

“No one in this allows anyone with a developmental disability to perform,” said Ed Schram, founder of Artists Unlimited. “We put all of our actors in a professional setting. We have a professional set, costumes, we have a full orchestra and once you put them in that setting, they show you abilities that nobody thinks they have.”

The nonprofit was formed 24 years ago. This year’s performance will be “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Shows are scheduled for the first two weeks of November.
