Russell Wilson is out as the New York Giants’ starting quarterback.
But the 36-year-old quarterback hasn’t closed the door on his NFL career just yet.
Wilson has made his future plans very clear
After being benched by head coach Brian Daboll with the Giants sitting at 0-3 to start the season, for rookie Jaxson Dart, the 2014 Super Bowl winning quarterback issued a three-word response to retirement speculation.
“I’m not done,” he said to the media on Wednesday.
Despite having a career outing in the G-men’s overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2 that left his teammates ‘amazed’, Wilson’s performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 was far below the expectations of the veteran quarterback.
In a heated contest between the two sides, he completed 18-of-32 of his pass attempts for 160 yards and two interceptions in their 22-9 defeat to Patrick Mahomes and co, which led to Giants fans around MetLife Stadium booing him.
With such a promising quarterback in former USC and Ole Miss signal caller Dart waiting for his opportunity to lead the team under center, Daboll has been forced to pull the trigger on the Wilson experiment in the Big Apple already as Big Blue seeks to get their season back on track.
In his media availability on Wednesday, Russell addressed his benching, though he was very positive about the whole situation, admitting that he is only “focused on the now”.
“I’m not surprised by anything anymore to be honest with you,” Wilson said on Wednesday. “But at the same time, they [Kansas City Chiefs] made two good plays and the game was kinda back-and-forth, tight, and just didn’t go our way.
“So, I’m just focused on now. The one thing I’ve learned in the highest moments and the best times, coming off a game like Dallas, you live in that moment, you enjoy it, and then you’ve got to come back in the next one.
“Life is sometimes a 16-round fight. Football is a 16-round fight, sometimes 17 rounds, whatever it may be… Life is about response, so sometimes you feel like, when you’re in the moment, that you’re at the end of something or something’s heavy.
“I think for me, I just believe that I’m still in round five, round six and that’s my mentality. You just continue to fight, continue to stand up, continue to believe in you, continue to believe in those around you, continue to speak life.

Wilson is embracing his new role as a mentor to rookie Dart
With the 14-year veteran now in the twilight stages of his career as he approaches age 37 in November, there was some speculation that Wilson could maybe seek a trade away from New York just six months after signing a one-year, $21 million deal with $10.5 million guaranteed.
However, this was quickly squashed by Wilson.
“No, I’m focused on helping this team win,” Wilson added. “I’m focused on helping Jaxson. I’m focused on me getting ready to be the best version of me today on a Wednesday.
“I want to be here. I love this organization. I love the process of it all. I love the guys in the locker room. I’m not giving up on us in this season. I don’t know any other thought, any other thing than finding a way through.
“And sometimes you got to climb under the wall. Sometimes you got to fight through it. Sometimes there’s battles and things that you face in life or in sport, and I’m going to help lead the way in every way I can to make sure that we figure that out.”

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,” he posted.
While it isn’t exactly clear what Wilson intends to convey to his fans, his attention now turns to helping develop a young quarterback who is at the start of his career.
As a 10-time Pro Bowler, who was a sensation when leading the Seattle Seahawks for the first decade of his career, there is nobody more equipped to mentor Dart than Wilson, and there is no doubt that he will adapt to this new role with positivity and grace.
