DENVER (KDVR) — A Leadville man has been arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with a deadly road rage shooting in Lake County on Monday night.
Robert Price Chase, 31, of Leadville, was arrested and put into custody at the Lake County Detention Facility, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
CBI said that on Monday at about 10 p.m., Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the 13200 block of Highway 24, which is south of Woodland Park and north of Green Mountain Falls, for a shooting report.
Deputies found a man dead from an apparent shooting at the scene. That man has been identified as Landon Lavelle Mentink, 40, of Leadville.
At this point, investigators believe the two men were involved in a road rage incident that escalated to violence, and that Chase shot the victim during the incident.
Chase made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, where his bond was set at $100,000. He is scheduled to be in court next on Oct. 16.
CBI, the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney's Office are continuing to investigate this incident.
