A man believed to be unhoused was shot and killed during an altercation with another man in City Heights on Tuesday night.
The San Diego Police Department said that officers were notified around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday by someone who heard gunshots being fired near the intersection of 43rd Street and Polk Avenue.
Police said they checked the area and found a downed person suffering from at least one gunshot wound in the west alley of 43rd Street between University and Polk Avenue.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. His name has not yet been released.
A person of interest was taken into custody but was released “pending additional investigation,” police added.
Detectives were on the scene processing evidence, interviewing witnesses and viewing security footage.
