CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Ontario County District Attorney’s Office has faced staffing challenges for several years, and the situation is expected to worsen with the impending retirement of the current District Attorney, Jim Ritts.

Republican candidate for District Attorney, Jason MacBride, anticipated that about ten assistant district attorneys would leave alongside Ritts. He expected only two assistant district attorneys to remain.
MacBride said he was confident the office would be close to fully staffed by the time the new district attorney’s term begins on Jan. 1.
“We’ve been blessed to have a lot of interest from experienced attorneys and those folks need time to wrap up what they have going on which is fair to those folks as well, so I’m very optimistic that we’ll hit the ground running without issue concerning staffing,” said MacBride.
MacBride also said they have been working behind the scenes to try and “assemble the best, the brightest, experienced, innovative prosecutors in the area.”
Just a few months back, Ritts lost the primary election for Ontario County DA to MacBride. News10NBC’s Kristi Blake spoke to both of them, and MacBride said then that if he won, he would prioritize training younger staff, restoring the DWI program, and mending relationships.
