Colbert addressed the topic immediately as he began the September 22 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. "We do like 160 of these a year or something, and you know, when I have the chance, it's always nice to start the show with some good news," he shared.
"Well, just a few hours before we tape this broadcast, we got word that our long national late nightmare is over," Colbert added.

"Wait, unless CBS, you wanna announce anything? What? Still no? Right, 'cause the money thing, I forgot," Colbert joked as he stepped close to the camera and suggested that perhaps CBS could reverse their decision about canceling his show. The audience got a kick out of it all.
Colbert suggested that the reason ABC backed down on Kimmel's suspension was that "Google searches for 'cancel Disney+' and 'cancel Hulu' spiked." He added that the increase in those searches then explained, "why the other trending search was 'How to entertain feral child without Bluey?'"
The entertainer lauded viewers and fans for being upset and pushing ABC to bring Kimmel back. He also acknowledged Senator Ted Cruz's statement about it, which was critical of ABC. Colbert admitted, "Wow, I am shocked that I agree with Ted Cruz on something."
Later during his opening monologue, Colbert referenced online chatter among some circles indicating the end of the world is coming on September 23. "Ooh, tough break, Kimmel. So close, so close," Colbert joked about Kimmel missing out on his return due to the world ending, as the audience laughed.
