Beloved 90s TV Star Mourns Heartbreaking Family Loss: ‘Lost a Piece of My Soul’

A fan favorite star from Full House and Fuller House shared heartbreaking news via social media. Andrea Barber, who played Kimmy Gibbler in both television shows, had to say farewell to a beloved family member, she revealed on Instagram.

Barber shared two sweet photos of her dog, Holly, who she noted was born in 2007. "Last week I said goodbye to my soul dog, Holly," the Full House star wrote.

Holly came into my life at a time I needed her most. I was going through a painful divorce, lonely on the days without my kids. At an adoption event, Holly walked right up, stood on her hind legs and put her paws on my lap. She chose me."

Barber noted that Holly was six years old at the time they became a family. Sadly, Holly had been "abused as a backyard breeder dog."

Until Barber adopted Holly, the dog had never played with toys or learned how to walk on a leash, she revealed. In addition, the Fuller House star noted, Holly was underweight "from needing to fight the other dogs for food."

In adopting Holly, Barber wrote, "I didn't realize I wasn't just giving her a home; I was giving her a second life...She had finally found a family and real love."

Barber noted that Holly helped her through the heartbreak of losing her mom, and "She filled a void and brought me immeasurable joy. The simplicity of her love taught me what really matters."

Unfortunately, Barber explained, the past two years of Holly's long life were difficult. She had both kidney and heart disease, but Barber noted it was well-managed thanks to the veterinarians they worked with. "She was strong and happy...until she wasn't," Barber added.

The Full House star also shared, "To care for Holly at the end of her life was an honor. I held her when she fussed, stroked her fur, told her I loved her in every possible way." Barber admitted it was heartbreaking to experience Holly's decline, but added it was "a deeply cherished time."

Barber described her final moments with Holly, where she lay "nose to nose with her, looking into her sweet eyes" as she sang her beloved dog one last song. Now that Holly is gone, Barber admitted she feels like she has "lost a piece of my soul."

Despite her heartbreak, Barber noted she reminds herself she gave Holly a good life and "peaceful goodbye," for which she is grateful.

Fans and some of Barber's Full House co-stars shared notes of support in the comment section.

"Sweet Holly. You were the best mama and loved her so well. She had an amazing second life because of your love. Praying for your heart my friend," wrote Candace Cameron Bure.

"I love you so so much. I know that Holly was much more than your pup, she was your angel, both here and now across the rainbow bridge," added Jodie Sweetin.

Hallmark star Lacey Chabert commented, "Such beautiful words about such a profound love and bond. I'm so sorry. Sending you a big hug."

Another comment read, "Andrea.... I'm so sorry...I can barely see the screen through my tears...You gave your girl the best life. She longed for nothing. You were both so lucky to have found each other."

"Sending fuller hugs," wrote a fan.
