GORHAM, N.Y. — After a massive warehouse fire in Ontario County on Aug. 30, fire crews are still dealing with some of the aftermath from it.

The Gorham Fire Department posted photos on their Facebook page of all their clothing, protective gear, and equipment being cleaned of hazardous materials by a cleaning company out of New Jersey.
The warehouse was filled with nearly thousands of expired hand sanitizer and other items. Earlier this month, News10NBC obtained letters, cease and desist orders, emails, and even a lawsuit that pointed to concerns state and local officials had about the business, which never got a permit or site plan approval from the town.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Gorham, as of Sept. 4, they hadn’t heard from the property owner since the fire.

State Assemblymember Jeff Gallahan also expressed frustration over what he sees as a lack of action by state and local agencies, saying they knew for months but couldn’t take action.

On Sept. 4, the DEC issued an advisory for the nearby Flint Creek as a result of the fire, telling the public to avoid all recreational activity in the creek.
There is still no word on if or when the warehouse’s owner will face any charges.
