Moses Itauma has received a new challenge from fellow undefeated prospect Richard Torrez Jr.
Itauma, who is currently a perfect 13-0 since turning over as a professional, is the hottest property in the heavyweight division right now.
The 20-year-old has been inundated with fight call-outs since dispatching of Dillian Whyte in just one round back in August, which was the biggest victory of his glittering career.
Itauma is currently ranked No.1 by the WBO and now most recently at No.1 by the WBA.
A pencilled in return date is December 13 for the talented teenage prodigy, with an official opponent yet to be confirmed with Filip Hrgovic appearing to reject the bout.
Several leading names have put themselves forwards for a shot at derailing the hype train, and Torrez Jr is the latest to do so.
The undefeated 13-0 power-puncher, who has 11 KOs from his victories, believes a fight would be a huge opportunity for him to complete his breakthrough in the division.
He said: “He’s an amazing fighter, and I think that he’s really shown his stuff, especially against Dillian Whyte,” Torrez told BoxingScene.
“It was an incredible performance. So I’m really happy for him. And I think that he’s a great guy.
“But with that being said, I’m 100 per cent confident in my abilities as a fighter as well.
“I would love to get in the ring [with him]. I think that we’d have some really great fights if one of us jumped across the pond.”
Who is Richard Torrez Jr?
Torrez Jr is being backed stateside as one of the heavyweight prospects in the US right now to revive the division, and step in to fill the void left by Deontay Wilder.
Torrez Jr is on a similar path to Itauma – and is open to risking his record in the ring in a fight with the BritonHe has a stellar amateur pedigree having scooped a silver medal for Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games.
And in a big step-up last time out, the heavy-handed star finally got taken the distance, but he cruised to his biggest victory yet over Guido Vianello.
With his promoter Top Rank currently at a crossroads, it is unclear when his next outing will be.
But a showdown with Itauma would be huge, albeit risky with one perfect record having to go.
What is next for Moses Itauma?
Itauma, for now, is focusing on his next bout which will come before the end of 2025.
