ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A former Ogden Police officer and Orleans County Sheriff’s deputy is facing federal charges after being accused of threatening an FBI agent.
According to a criminal complaint, it says on Sept. 15, an FBI agent assigned to FBI’s Rochester Resident Agency found two posters on their porch at their home in Ogden with threatening messages written on them.
The agent reported it to the Ogden Police Department, and also provided home security footage which showed a man putting the signs on the porch.
After the Ogden Police chief watched the footage, the complaint says he recognized the man as Steven Ploof, who he had worked with for years.
Later that night on the 15th, Greece Police officers saw Ploof on Squareview Lane in Greece and did a welfare check, where they say Ploof ignored their commands, tried to hit them with his car, tried to make a spray can into a makeshift torch, and had a machete.
In response, the officers tased Ploof, detained him, and brought him to Rochester General Hospital.

Early morning on Sept. 16, Ploof had escaped from RGH, prompting a lockdown at the hospital. When Ploof was found, the lockdown was lifted and Ploof was taken into custody by Greece Police officers.

When Greece Police officers searched Ploof’s home while executing a state search warrant, they found the words shown in the picture below on the wall in his bedroom.
In the complaint, it also says the Monroe Crime Analysis Center published an Officer Safety Bulletin regarding Ploof, where it outlined two incidents where he threatened to kill people, one of them being a family member of his.
