The tush push discourse is once again in the national spotlight.
After Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles boa-constricted the Kansas City Chiefs to death 20-17, the tush push was back front and center in the news.
Multiple replays showed Eagles guards Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen moving early before center Cam Jurgens’ snap, but no false starts were called.
This, of course, drew the ire of Chiefs players—especially Kansas City’s defensive anchor and man in the middle, Chris Jones. However, Jones still put the onus on him and the defense to stop the play and not leave it in the hands of the officials.
“You can’t get all the calls right,” Jones said after the game. “Just because we see it, sometimes the official is 15, 20 feet away and sometimes they can miss those small things.
“We think he jumped multiple times. The official didn’t see it, so it wasn’t called. We just got to go play the next down.”
NFL Films showed Jones’ frustration after the Eagles successfully scored on fourth-and-goal using the tush push.
“They’re running the same play seven f——- times!” Jones yelled on the bench.
“Everybody knows what’s coming,” Saquon Barkley shouted as he walked off the field. “It don’t f—— matter!”
However, on Thursday afternoon, Jones spoke to the media and clarified that clip was not in reference to the Eagles running the tush push.
“I never once complained about the tush push on the sideline,” Jones explained. “The clip you’ve all seen was portrayed as they ran the tush push, I came out.
“No, that was because they ran the inside zone five times, and I’m like, as a defensive line, we’ve got to adjust to that.”

“This game was lost in March,” Schefter declared. “This game was lost when NFL owners refused to ban the tush push from happening.
“And there might be a lot of games that the Eagles play that (were) lost in March. Because this play is unstoppable.”
Schefter went on to discuss Dean Blandino and the NFL on FOX broadcast team, who criticized the missed false starts during the game.
“Even the officials don’t even know how to handle it,” Schefter continued. “You’re seeing the Eagles’ linemen jump offsides every play, and nothing is called. The Eagles get to do whatever they want, every single play with the tush push. I know people hate it, but they have mastered it.”
One specific Eagles offensive lineman does not care what people are saying about the play. Star tackle Jordan Mailata is not here to listen to Schefter.

“I couldn’t give a f*** what Adam Schefter says, to be honest,” Mailata said to the media. “And I ain’t the one calling the plays on my team.
“Whichever announcer said it was a rugby play deserves jail time. I think it’s a beautiful piece of art, yeah. Definitely a work of art. It’s a lot of coordination, a lot of organized mass. Every other team can do it. Why can’t they convert?”
Mailata didn’t stop there. He called it “incredibly disrespectful” that the discourse coming out of Sunday’s victory was surrounded by the officials and what they didn’t call.
“I understand the outrage [over the tush push],” Mailata said during an interview with 94 WIP on Tuesday, via ESPN.

“And my brothers on defense and special teams who balled out that game, who had our backs when we weren’t moving the ball or weren’t doing anything.
“That p***** me off, because we give so much to this game and to kind of base off a short-yardage play, that is a football play, and say that we won the game off that, but not how our defense played and not how our special teams have played, putting us in those positions.
“You know I think it’s b*******. I just think it’s rubbish. Absolute rubbish, man. It makes my blood boil just thinking about it.”
